Planting even a single tree can provide multiple benefits to earth and the more, the better. Trees planted by Maaji’s Planting an Ocean of Trees campaign are specifically placed in the Andean region of Colombia, the brand’s native country. This chosen area will protect watersheds that have been hit by violence and affected by the indiscriminate logging of forests. Located in the equatorial zone, this region will allow further growth of trees with potential high water and provide a greater contribution to the fight against climate change. In conjunction with regional environmental authorities, Maaji has chosen to plant the tree species of Cedar, Willow, Oak, and Myrtle. “Plantings will continuously be verified by the multinational Deloitte & Touche.”

Planting trees also provides a social impact among the inhabitants of the region and the world. These tree plantings bring additional resources to family farmers and improve their quality of life by protecting their drinking water. Additional Green Solutions implemented with this campaign include soil recovery and topsoil protection, improving soil porosity, promoting species to create native habitats, spreading tree species to fight against the danger of extinction, and reconnecting forest patches to build travel corridors for wildlife.

Madonna at the Opening of Hard Body Fitness

We’ve been loving geometric prints this season, and now the Material Girl herself is getting in on this trend. Proving that these angular prints are not just a designer swimwear exclusive, Madonna’s chic look is anything but square.

Madonna recently launched her latest project, Hard Candy Fitness, a gym and fitness center in Mexico City. To mark the occasion, she showed off her toned physique in a relaxed geometric print dress with thigh high boots. We adore the black and beige print of the dress with pops of cherry red that keep this look colorful and young.

Colombiamoda, along with Rio Fashion week in Brasil is quickly becoming one of the leading fashion weeks in the southern hemisphere, particularly when it comes to bathing suits. This year, Maaji Swimwear claimed its place in the swimwear shows with fun and flirty silhouettes, and bold and vibrant colors as the centerpiece of the collection. Let’s be honest, as much as shopping online has its unbeatable advantages (as discussed in previous posts), selecting the right swimsuit size without trying it on can sometimes be challenging. That’s why we’ve recruited a fabulous team of fashion specialists to help you find the right suit for your body type. So we asked our fashion advisors about the common questions from swimsuit shoppers out there. And here’s a couple of tips we found to be useful when shopping for a swimsuit online:

1. Take the guessing game (and the muffin top) out of the picture. Get a string bikini.

One thing that women wonder when choosing the right size is, will it be tight on my waistline? Nobody wants a muffin top. Or a droopy bottom either. The best way to assure a great fit is to get a string bikini. The tie sides allow you to adjust your waist coverage while keeping your bum coverage at a comfortable level. Generally, if you’re usually a 0-2, choosing the smallest size (generally an XS or a Small) is the best option for you. If you’re more like a 2-4 you may want to go with a Medium, and a 6-8 usually fits a Large. Popular latin brands like Maaji, Agua Bendita, Sabz, and OndadeMar are soundproof designers who’d tailor a string bikini to fit these measurements.

2. Follow the bra size rule

If you know and usually fit into a specific bra size, the best way to lift up your girls is choosing an underwire top. Underwire swimsuits are an amazing way to spice up a regular two piece. If you’re a solid 32-34A, your best bet if to go with a size Small for underwire top. 32-34B usually fit great into a Medium, and 32D-34Cs usually fit into a Large. Even though those of us outside of those ranges would need additional style specific advise, fitting into one of these sizes is a fireproof way to look pinupy at the pool.

3. Love your curves (and Hips)

For those of us bootylicious ladies, choosing a bikini bottom can be quite an endeavor. However, hipster bottoms have time and time again proven to be the most flattering style for apple bottom type of women. The low rise cut provides a sexy factor, but the boyshorts style allows for enough coverage. We absolutely adore hipster bottoms and value the designer fit they give to Beyonce-type ladies.

As the sunny days of summer remind us of the essential need for a trendy bikini, we like to point our attention to those special standout items. Choosing a two-piece swimsuit that can be worn several different ways is essential for doing summer in style. Case in point: the Gather Exaltus by Maaji Swimwear.

4 (or more) ways to wear it!

The Gather Exaltus offers several fashionable options that adjust to your preference or mood. Feeling like a halter top in Cabo? Well, go for it. Prefer to avoid tan lines with a bandeau swimsuit? Flip it over and tie it at bust. Want something different? Twist and cross the straps below bust and tie them back. Whatever your preference, you can count on this style to deliver. It can be worn at least four different ways.

And however many ways you find (there’s room for creativity here, believe us), double it. This swimsuit is reversible. Wear it ‘inside out’ for a completely different look.

Hint: we don’t show the reverse fabric for any of the Maaji Swimwear items because the manufacturer – in an effort to keep each piece unique – continues to change the reverse print. Meaning of course, that the fabric we show might not be the one you get. It’s almost like a bit of a surprise… wrapped in a very sexy, trendy bikini.

Monokini in the 60s

Ok, so here’s a bit of trivia on the monokini one piece. In 1964, the first monokini was designed here in the US by an Austrian-American fashion designer, Rudi Gernerich. It first appeared in Look magazine as part of an article about futuristic fashions.

We already told you about how Zoe Duchesne wore the fabulous Bendito Napoleon topless in the latest Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and turns out that, well, this thought had crossed the mind of the original monokini creator. Gernerich’s monokini was designed to be topless. It looked like a one-piece from mid waist down suspended from two halter straps running down the cleavage of, you guessed it, bare breasts.

As you might imagine, this was very risqué for the time. Although the 60s were at the height of the Sexual Revolution, people were still largely conservative. The New York City Police Department had strict instructions to arrest any woman found wearing a monokini in the city’s parks, and a 19 year old woman was charged $100 for wearing one on a public beach in Chicago. Despite its many critics, the monokini sold in record numbers but very few people wore them in public.

Since the monokini comes in a variety of styles now, you don’t have to wear them topless if you don’t want to! One of our favorites is Graffiti Exoticae Monokini by Maaji Swimwear, which has the designer’s notorious collage of fabrics with a polkadot pattern on ruched straps.
