Breakout model Kate Upton has the honor of being chosen for this year’s cover and we couldn’t be more thrilled about it. Kate is a unique choice for the infamous yearly swimsuit issue because of her unique style in today’s world of fashion. The voluptuous 19 year-old model has a 50’s pin-up look with her curvy physique and bombshell blonde hair. We can’t hide the fact that Kate reminds us of the beloved Marilyn Monroe: she even wore a white dress similar to Monroe’s iconic frock to the Late Show with David Letterman last night after the official unveiling of her cover.
Kate’s career has launched in the past few years. She was featured within the pages of Sports Illustrated’s 2011 Swimsuit Edition and named Rookie of the Year. Kate has also been featured as a covergirl for Cosmopolitan Bride. The voluptuous model broke into the swimwear scene when being featured as the main campaign model for Beach Bunny Swimwear. Kate not only secured photoshoots and features throughout the Beach Bunny Swimwear website, but she’s also been highlighted on the stages for Beach Bunny fashion shows including last year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Swim in Miami.
In early 2011 a video of Kate dancing ‘the dougie’ at a Los Angeles Clippers game went viral and captured the attention of people all over the world. (Check the video out for yourself!) She was even named Woman of the Year by Esquire magazine for Summer 2011. Wondering how Upton was discovered? Kate attended a model call in 2008 and was signed to Elite Model Management the same day. And a fun fact about our SI cover model, Kate, a Michigan native raised in Melbourne, Florida, has won five championships as an equestrian.
