As we leave summer behind and look toward the cooler months ahead, beach cover-ups make the perfect accessory to any fashionista’s favorite swimsuit. And there’s no better way to transition into fall than with beach cover-ups that follow one of the hottest trends right now: the classic contrast of black and white. The timeless combination of these two colors was shown by a number of designers at New York Fashion Week, and the trend is most noticeable and fashion-forward in dresses.
Lucky for you stylish ladies, we have some fabulous black-and-white finds right here at The Orchid Boutique that double as beach cover-ups for over swimwear and dresses to be paired with heels and worn on a night out! Whether you prefer a patterned dress or one that’s a little simpler, swimwear designers all over are featuring adorable black and white beach cover-ups to complement their collections. Donning a cover-up over your swimwear is a great way to show off your style, especially since they come in all cuts, shapes, prints and colors. But we love the idea of putting the black and white trend to use in a beach cover-up!
This great new Patty Cakes Flower Dress by Betsey Johnson for 2010 is the perfect mixture of black and white in plaid on an asymmetrical piece. It’s an excellent example of taking the trend and making it wearable, comfortable and useful.
Vix’s 2010 Bia Jersey Dress definitely fits the classic but chic category, which makes it a surprising possibility for a beach cover-up. But with its fantastic triangle-shaped top and empire waist, this is your new LBC — Little Black Cover-up.
A truly eye-catching beach cover-up option, the Vixen V Dress, comes from PHAX’s High Summer Collection and features black and white to the max. Forget your swimsuit (though we have some great black and white options there also), go straight out for a night on the town in this one!
It may start getting a little too chilly to jump in any water, but you can still rock your trendy swim style by topping off the whole look with any of our stylish black and white beach cover-ups. They’ll keep you on trend and maybe a bit warmer, too!

I can’t even believe that Vixen V is a considered a cover up! How adorable! I’d totally wear it out!
yes doesn’t look much like a cover up
probably like to wear at a beach party or something like that
i guess that would make sence
yeah, cause it does look a little more elegant than the usual coverup
Coverups, my weakness! Love Love Love, even when you leave the beach, pool, etc. your still able to look fabulous!
i don’t do coverups much but the last pic does catch my eye
i too love coverups, they’re always on my mind! and love the ones that transition from day to night
i am going to have to look into the cover up theme again and see if i can find one that i really really like
there are great ones in here, bold colors and neutral classy ones
i like the most the Onda de Mar cover ups. Heck, the whole collection is magnificent!.
they are very nice
i love how they make them look so beachy
that collection is nice
yeah very! they have amazing craftmanship
They are so great on the boat – after a day of swimming, heading back to the dock, I always need a cover-up to keep me warm.
they would come in handy when chilled and feel the need to cover
i just love them on afternoons, to sit and watch the sunset…
oh that sound so beautiful, i love doing that but usually don’t have a cover up on
oh i do! i can’t stay just on my suit for long
The journey cover up from Onda de Mar is so brilliant. Black so it goes with different suits, and what a sexy cut!
very versitile
i love black! it’s a slimming color
thats probably why its alwasy my go to colour
haha me too! i just love how it makes me look
Some of my favorite cover ups are my big winter scarves. They’re super soft and wide, perfect for wrapping, covering, or just something soft and sensuous to lay out on.
i really don’t get the winter scarf thing
what are they made of?
she does go on to say below not to use the knitt kind but i still don’t really get it i would have to see a pic of it to understand
maybe like a sarong or something like that
Wow, thats a pretty good idea. Sounds cute!
good idea but does it really look good what type of scarf
i think she means the type like a sarong kind of… lightweight fabric, long and wide…
Cute coverups, and great ideas but don’t seem practical if its a knitted scarf??
if it’s a knitted scarf i don’t see how it could work…
she said the knitts do not work, but still i am confused
ohh ok, yeah cause i dind’t get it… now i kinda do
Yes, they are great!! They make you feel and look wonderful!
Yeah, you definately want a thinner, cotton-y material. I use a nice cotton-lycra blend wrap, its so soft and the size is perfect, and it looks super chic however you use it. I wouldn’t recommend using anything knitted or wooly/furry, think sand, concrete, salt and water. Plus you don’t want anything that screams “winter wonder land” in the middle of summer.
this expalians alot thanks but i am not sure about pulling it off
ahhh ok, like a big sarong?
thats what i am guessing
yeah, like the scarves that people are using now a days
i dont really like the first one, love the other ones! great for day or night
they seem and look very flexable on not just being used for a coverup
i know i’d wear them on a night out in the town
ya they are a glorified dress
i bet it would turn some heads!
I love the last one it really looks like a nice sun dress for those running around days cute
very versatile, like you could wear it anywhere anytime
thats what it looks like but than i wouldn’t feel like i was doing the beach thing if the dress didn’t look an dfeel like a cover up
well we don’t know about the feel, i have no idea whatfabric it is… maybe it’s spandex! that’s beachy to me
beach cover-ups are all a rage
i agree! i can never have enough coverups! love to mix em up
a classic contrast of black and white shown here
yeah, great print in the fabric!
triangle-shaped top and empire waist, i can maybe deal with the top not so much high bottoms
i love that style! specially for the beach!
trend and making it wearable, thats how they descibed themselves that sound about right
yeah! they sure are trendy! i’d love to wear these on any beach or party
