We’ve got a special treat today: an interview with the lovely Angie from YouLookFab! Angie’s been in the fashion industry for over 16 years and now gives out fashion advice on her site and believes that “style is beyond size, age and price.” We’re honored to present you with Angie’s answers to our pressing fashion questions:
Swim Couture: What are your favorite new trends for winter 09/spring 2010?
Angie: For Winter ‘09, I’m besotted with sheath dresses, voluminous pieces, slouch boots, fly away cardigans, stirrup leggings, menswear inspired clothing, moto jackets and non-patent handbags. Basically anything with an 80’s flavour captures my interest. For Spring ‘10, the resurgence of lower heel heights and lots of yellow tickles my toes.
SC: What are the worst new trends in your opinion?
Angie: I’m not fond of leg shortening ankle length pants, harem pants with sagging crotches and soaring 4 to 5 inch heels that look unnatural and are
uncomfortable.
SC: What colors and tones were prevalent during fashion week?
Angie: You’ll see all the colours in Fashion Week. There’s always a lot of black, grey and white with brights and soft pastels. It’s hard to pick out which are most prevalent.
SC: Are you a fan of plaid, and how long do you think this trend will
continue?
Angie: Yes! I love plaid skirts and pants and feel that they’re always in fashion as long as the styling is current and flattering.
SC: Are you a bikini or a one piece suit girl?
Angie: I’m a one piece gal for sure.
SC: What are your preferences when it comes to swimsuit style (color options, bandeau vs. triangle, Brazilian cut vs. full coverage, padded vs. unpadded, etc)?
Angie: I like a colourful one-piece swimsuit style that’s high-cut on the thigh and high-cut on the neckline with a super low back. I don’t mind padding as long as it looks natural. I love to match up my swimsuit with a transparent sarong and raybans.

I love the leggings look but I am so intimidated about putting it together!!
so am I but I do love the look, wish it came a little easy to put together
you gotta look for leggins that aren’t see through, those i don’t like
really they would be fun
if you’re wearing a dress or something so that you don’t show the wrong parts! lol
i don’t know if I’m into plaid… too shabby chic for me… but I love the statement jewelry trend that’s really hot right now!
I agree Mandy! I can’t do plaid…it reminds me of my days in middle school when the whole Seattle grunge scene was big. I wore a lot of plaid in middle school…and I have no desire to relive that awkwardness!
i don’t care for pliad either to young looking
there are ways for us to wear it though, not everything plaid is too young looking
jewelry is awesome, big and attention grabbing
ya but i don’t care for it in s swim suit, maybe a belly chain
i don’t like that at all, i’d rather wear a bracelet or necklace made of natural products
ya no big honking looking stuff
nothing too overpowering
Angie- I completely agree with you! Those harem pants were the worst!
i hate the harem pants too, with the low crotches! i think they are unflattering and just plain ugly!!
Yes completely ugly, what were they thinking not flattering at all
i still see people wearing them and think to myself: “do they really think that looks ok?”
i don’t know they must
well probably if they still wear them
not flattering at all
your crotch hangs to low knee knocking
yeah, it looks like you sh– yourself…
has a diaper on
hahah probably, included!lol
totally the worst i agree with both of you
nothing quite like it
they can keep it
or burn it
I completely agree with the leg shortening pants. Why do people even MAKE capris? I wish they would stop…
I agree, two pieces are much more flattering. I would even rather go with a monokini!
i have no choice, I have to where a monokini or one piece.
love the monokini they should make more
maaji made a lot of great ones in their new collection
me too monokini all the way
i think it’s the sexiest style
they make you look to short and cut off not stylish at all
the capris? they just look like your pants don’t fit anymore
i don’t mind them
In my opinion one piece swimsuits are hard to pull off… i think the bikini cut is more flattering.
I have to disagree. I think that it strictly depends on your body shape and size…
i agree with darlin, it’s all about each person
to each thier own but some should not
there are people who look great in bikinis, others in one pieces and others are lucky enough to pull off both, lucky them!
it depend yes but usually not for many
there are few who can do it, i agree
i wear them sometimes
well then good for you, looks like you’re one of the lucky ones
I agree with the comment about the ankle length pants completely, they shorten you and make you look much more fuller figured than you really are.
Well no one wants that but ya they do seem to cut you off to make you look short
and they do make you look a little more full figured
well we don’t want that now do we
of course! it’s har enough trying to look skinny
I feel like plaid is great for work or for formal affairs, I don’t think it should be included in a daily wardrobe.
OMG.. no . that’s a big no no… In NYC we like to explicitly wear whats’ in style w/o overdoing it..
It would be hard to keep up with the trend in NY, I would be lost as to what to pull off
i think plaid is very informal, i wouldn’t wear it to work or to formal affairs..
not even then would i really wear it
i do wear it but on a sunday to go somewhere where i won’t be seen a lot… plaid shirts are comfortable
don’t care for it at all
i do like it, the buttoned plaid shirts are very comfy
don’t like them much
well, to each it’s own, you can’t win them all
One shoulder pieces are coming in which is great and there isn’t so much emphasis on skimpy triangle bikinis. You can look fab without looking like you are going to fall out all over the place
i agree, one soulder pieces are a great asset to any closet!
love the new one shoulder looks
they give such a stylized look
its very sexy showing your shoulders
i agree! shoulders are sexy
Im short so capris are pants for me….I see some nice ones at the store but then I think… I don’t to flood ..such a bummer.
have them altered to your hieght
exactly, everything can be tailored now
make them your bestfreinds
they can tweak any little thing
4 to 5 inch heels that look unnatural and are
uncomfortable MY GOd I’m soooo with you on this one. I hate Heels, never the less 5″ heels yuk. No
yeap me too, with the platform and everything….
the heels are a great thing why so negative on heels
i like heels, don’t get me wrong… just not a fan of the super high heels that look like stripper shoes
those are hidious
they look very uncomfortable as well
heels for what a swim suit oir just every day? I love heels love
no, for me swimsuits are bare feet or flipflops… never heels with swimsuits!
yes sandles
yeah, something simple
definetly no everithing looks good…every body have a different type of body…but i agree went some one put a leggings under a dress in the cold weather…and looks faboulous
leggins are a great trend!
they look nice with long sweaters or shirts
yeah i love that look
i haven’t imbraced it yet but love it
i have to work on it as well
YAY to all the one piece girls .. we can look just as good as the others check out the suits on this site and youll see what Im talking about
i think one pieces and monokinis are even sexier than bikinis, they leave a little to the imagination!
they are a very sexy look and i agree about the imagination gives them more to think about
and even they find them even sexier
i do find the monokini sexier than a one piece
i find monokinis sexier than some bikinis
perfect look for us who like to show alittle less or are covering something up
exactly! you can hide things and not look like a nun
still show it where it counts
it shows the things you want to show
I’ve never understood why ankle length pants were popular, they’re not flattering at all, regardless of how trendy!
i agree! they look like they just don’t fit lengthwise
i don’t mind them at all capre’s they are great for summer
i’m not a fan, i rather bermudas
they are very stylish at times
When I was in high school EVERYONE had them… I think jeans weren’t so popular as they are now
that’s funny!
oh high school those days fashion wise i could forget for sure
yeah me too! lots of mistakes haha!
i am still making them
jeans are hot i have a jean feddish
me too! bathingsuits and jeans! love them
i have drawers stuffed
Nice comments ladies!
Laura and Kennedy, you might like to look at how easy it is to pull together leggings outfits after reading this post:
http://youlookfab.com/2009/07/01/ylf-forum-members-master-leggings/
Once you’ve had children and can’t work out 7 days a week with a personal trainer, the one-piece bathing costume becomes your friend. I haven’t had children, turn 40 next year and look fine in a two-piece, but I feel stunning in a one piece suit. Chic, sophisticated and very comfortable. At the end of the day, you are as alluring as you feel :0)
i did look into it but i can;t seem to pull the look together i like and love it on a manican but when i do not so much
i’m sure you do!! it’s not that hard to do…
harder than you think i just feel off when i put it together
WOW I love the advice you give Im definitely going to remember this later
yeah! great to hear great opinions from someone so knowledgeable
the advise form the blog is good and something to go by for sure
yeah, this blog and her page
i also looked at that site angie said it has good advice
which advise was that
Very true, you have to know what you can and can’t wear, and always stay true to your own style!
and be confident in yourself!
thats the key
without confidence you can’t do anything…
i am losing confidence as we speak
once you find your style that is lol
i agree! nothing like the eprfect thing to make you feel great
you just know once to put it on its gives you an instant boost
yes! enough confidence to pull it off beautifully
thats right once you find it hold on to it but be sure to keep instyle
of course! better yet, buy something classic and you won’t have to worry about it
you won’t be disap. with your pick from this site
Yeah even though something is beautiful on the rack leave it there if you dont feel beautiful in it.
But sometimes you just don’t know if its you or not I need to stand there and really check it out before I venture out in any thing that I am not sure flatters my body
i try everything on before i buy, that’s why buying online is so difficult for me
than why do you
because i can´t find these where i live
as long as you know yourself and have your confidence, you can pull off any outfit!
you can pull anything off
yeap, confidence is key to feeling and looking good
feeling liek crap today things haven’t gone that great with this blogging thing
not so sure about this statement
why? as long as you know your body and buy appropiate clothes that make you feel good, the last piece of the puzzle is the confidence
i will continue to work at that
We’ve all seen those ladies and gentlemen on the street wearing couture…but not wearing it well. You have to make it your own.
we all have bad days
exactly!
ya exactly
Love that grey has become so huge, I love greys they seem to be rich and luxurious depending on what you do with them
i too love grey, and am glad to see them on swimwear more
its a new look
a great one i might add!
soem are so stylish they don’t have amny grey on this site though
they have a few… there’s a beautiful one piece suit in the badgley mischka collection
its a real great colour for me
it’s one of my favorites
it is one of my favorites as well this season and has been for awhile
i think my whole life i’ve loved gray
its a classy colour
i just like they way it looks on me
this ladies picture reminds me of the guy who hosts look good naked, a britsh show, she looks alot like him
haha! that’s kinda harsh
not ment that way she really does look like he could be her brother
