We take it for granted now: another year, another issue of Sports Illustrated: The Swimsuit Edition! But did you ever wonder how a sports magazine came around to publishing a yearly issue dedicated to women in bikinis?
It all started one slow winter at Sports Illustrated headquarters. With nothing going on in the sports world to write about, editor Andre Laguerre had to come up with something to flesh out the pages of his magazine. So he called in young fashion reporter Jule Campbell to help him out. His question for Ms. Campell? “How would you like to go to some beautiful place and put a pretty girl on the cover?”
There had actually been a Swimsuit Edition earlier that year, featuring Babette March, but it hadn’t garnered too much attention. But Jule Campbell took the reins and turned the Swimsuit Edition around. Her secret? Featuring “bigger and healthier” California women that had a bit more meat on them then the Twiggy-type models that were popular at the time!

Yes is the normal looking women that makes me want to buy because if they look good in it I know I have a chance of looking good too. lol
exactly! obviously they are models and all, but at least they have chests and butts!

Soem just barely, but they do look good, some are way too skinny

no, because of the color of the suit, they combine black and white with that rasperry color, it looks amazing

Featuring “bigger and healthier” models – i don’t think someone who is a size 4 or 6 is really bigger. But I do appreciate that they look healthier.
they are very small still, but its not a total stick figure
yeah, they’re not big, just not a size 0 or 2…
they are curvey tiny girls most of them i do like the more curvey ones

really, do you think this mag. is for the women checking out swim suits or for the men checking out the women?? I wonder….
i think both… specially men because it is a men’s magazine
mainly for the men i don’t think alot of girls see this mag
