Orchid Boutique on 8th St. in South Beach will feature our luxury swimwear, beachwear, and an expanded selection of accessories including bags, hats and jewelry.

Renovations are underway for the transformation of our newest venture. We’re excited to bring you some images of our location and the beginning stages of construction. Be sure to check back here every week for updates on the store’s progress.

Gwyneth Paltrow in Pucci at the 2011 Emmy Awards

The lovely Gwyneth Paltrow is known to push the envelope of avant garde fashion at red carpet events, and usually does so flawlessly. Last week at the 2011 Emmy Awards Gwyneth donned a midriff bearing dress by Pucci. Gwyneth won the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her appearances on Glee. She received mixed reviews for her red carpet choice but we think she’s the only one who could pull this look off with the sophistication and elegance as she did.

We love that Gwyneth chose to expose some tummy with her red carpet ensemble – if anyone can show off their abs at an award show, it’s surely Gwyneth Paltrow. The Pucci dress was complete with a mock cap-sleeved crop top and high-waisted maxi skirt with the perfect amount of train. The top and bottom were connected with a sheer panel at the waist to create a true dress. The red carpet stunner was intricately detailed with sequin beading along the ethnic inspired print.

We see avant garde and ready to wear fashion trends emerged into swimwear everyday and the crop top is no exception. The 2012 Agua Bendita Swimwear Collection features the Bendito Ica Top, a cropped top with cap sleeves in a jewel toned ethnic print. This crop top features a scoop neckline and elastic band at bottom hem. This top is paired with the Bendito Ica bikini featuring a triangle top and string bottom in a sophisticated two-toned purple print.  Take some inspiration from fashion designers, and Ms. Gwyneth Paltrow, and pair your swimsuit with a crop top to create a second look.

Here are The Orchid Boutique, we are (not so secretly) a little bit obsessed with fashion and style. One of our favorite style shows is Project Runway-who doesn’t love Tim Gunn’s worried face and Michael Kors’ one-liners? Last night’s episode challenged the designers to create an updated, modern look for Jacqueline Kennedy. Dolls, we were so excited! And inspired! What would Jackie O wear today? And more importantly what swimsuit would she don at the beach? A one-piece? A monokini? A scandalous brazilian cut?

It would have to be classic, of course. If anyone exudes timeless elegance, it’s the one and only Jackie O. She was known for her classic combination of black and white, but she definitely didn’t shy away from color either.

We’d put her in the Pink Sands High-Waisted by OndadeMar Swimwear. The high-waisted silhouette is demure, but alluring at the same time, and has a bit of a retro feel that perfectly invokes the era of this style icon.

Daisy Racerback by True Religion

Denim is back with the eighties flair, and sources in the fashion industry tell us it is here to stay. There’s good and bad ways to do denim bikinis, one reason being it is easy to go overboard by mixing denim and swimwear (case in point: see picture on left). But some great denim styles are coming out of designers such as Lady Lux Swimwear, though no one does denim bikinis better than True Religion.

Being the experts in designer denim jeans, True Religion has come up with denim bikini designs that combine nylon spandex (the stretchy material) with this trend, without producing the rough tendencies of regular “jean” denim. If you want to go with swim-ready soft denim shorts like Kate Moss, we recommend the Daisy Racerback Bikini by True Religion Swimwear. Same Dukes of Hazzard flair, but no protruding “Minnie mouse ears” disguised as cups and no picnic blanket lining. Another good bandeau swimsuit option would be the Daisy Bandeau and Tie Bottom.

Yihaaw, gals! We’re in on the denim bikini trend.

Ever since it’s debut on our swimwear boutique a couple of weeks ago, people can’t seem to get enough of the Tutu bikini in neon pink and white (left). The row of flowy ruffles channel the tutu look but with a subtle flair. In the runway at Fashion Week in Miami, it looked as if in this bikini you’re floating on air in an ethereal, swim-ready way.

Poland-born Maria Dobrzanska Reeves is based out of Charlston, SC and mixes southern charm, eastern European accents, and a ballet influence to create this chic collection of designer swimsuits. Having been a ballerina herself, Marysia (as she is nicknamed by her loved ones) has created a collection of two piece and one piece swimsuits with studs, bright colors, and elegance. Apart from ruffle trims and balconet tops, she does the high-waisted trend exceptionally well, allowing a curvier and more modest woman to still be fashionable in her swimsuit while concealing minor imperfections.
