We all know swimwear is one area in which pageant contestants are judged, but did you know that the first Miss World Pageant in 1951 was first officially called the “Festival Bikini Contest”? However, because of opposition to being judged wearing a two-piece swimsuit in the competition, the bikini was banned from the Miss World Pageant for TWO decades after that. Contestants in Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA were first allowed to don bikinis in 1997 — a look that’s been around for thousands of years was only allowed 12 years ago!
Phew! Glad to know they changed their minds.
